Visit Priam Vineyards

Come Visit Us

Priam Vineyards is a solar powered and sustainable vineyard and winery that sits in the Salmon River watershed area, just minutes from Mohegan Sun Casino, Moodus Resort area, The Goodspeed Opera House, and a number of state parks, as well as the Airline Hiking Trail. The seasonally beautiful surroundings of the area offer a number of outdoor activities from hiking, fishing, canoeing and golf, to horse-back riding and cross-country skiing.Priam Vineyards' 40 acre farm has 24 acres of grapes in production, with a breathtaking 35 mile view of the New England countryside. We benefit from the unique microclimate of the hills of New London County, just 15 miles from Long Island Sound, where we grow classic European varietals: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Riesling, Muscat and Merlot as well as French-American hybrids: Cayuga and St. Croix. The rich gravelly soil mimics that of Graves, France. Our climate is very similar to the Alsation region of Northern France and Germany. This combination along with the sloping hillside and constant breeze provide the perfect climate for these varietals.

Wines

We presently produce 14 hand crafted wines which are released

at different times throughout the year. Our grapes are hand picked

to avoid bruising and ensure the freshest flavor, which ultimately carries through to wines.

Our white wines are: Jeremy River White, Salmon River White, Blackledge White, Cayuga, Barrel Select Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Late Harvest Riesling and Blackledge Rose'.

Our red wines are:
St. Croix, Salmon River Red, Salmon
River Red-PV, Westchester Red and Essence of St. Croix.

The Winery

In September 2010, we became the first winery in New England to be completely solar powered, completing the installation of panels that provides all the power needed to run the winery as well as all production of our wines. The winery was built into the hillside at the base of the vineyard, as a New England style barn. It was designed specifically to make use of the earths cool temperature in the wine cellar, as well as the use of gravity to feed juice from the crush pad to the tanks, to help reduce the impact on the environment. As environmentalists, we also practice sustainable agriculture, propagating bluebirds rather than using insecticides, to maintain a healthy vineyard. The 40 acre farm has been certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a natural bird and wildlife habitat.

Enjoy Your Visit

The vineyards are beautiful throughout the year for picnicking and touring. Enjoy a picnic in the vineyard or on the outdoor wine patio. Add local cheeses available for purchase in the tasting room, that beautifully compliment Priam Vineyards' wines. Or make a stop

at Cato Corner Farm, for a cheese tasting, Sat. & Sun., or Beltane Farms for goat cheese, and pick up some of  the delicious breads from Colchester Bakery. All great with our wines. http://www.catocornerfarm.com/, http://www.beltanefarm.com/

Enjoy the tasting room gallery where regional artists are displayed. Check our events page for those scheduled for talks
on the wine patio.

Priam Vineyards is open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and select holidays, 11am to 5 pm, March through December, for tastings and self-guided tours of the vineyard. We also have additional Summer hours, look for those in our HOURS schedule displayed to the left of this page. Please note, picnics are welcome during warm weather season only, on the outdoor patio, as we do not allow dining in our indoor facilty at any time.

Tasting

Wine tastings are available March through December, every Friday, Saturday, Sunday & select holidays, 11am-5pm*, for a fee. Large groups are welcome, we ask that you reserve any group of ten or more by contacting the winery. For more information on group tastings, reservation forms and tasting fees, email  info@priamvineyards.com.

Guided Tours & Group Events

Guided tours for groups of ten or more are available with the wine maker by reservation. A minimum fee covering 10 people is required for a group tour or tasting reservation. The tour consists of an explanation of the grape growing and wine making process as pertains to our unique viticulture district as your group tours the vineyard (weather permitting). Your group will then be allowed a question and answer period, and will be taken into the tasting room to sample our present wine selection. A Priam Vineyards wine glass is our gift to each person participating in the tasting.

Please email the winery to request a reservation form with all fees explained, info@priamvineyards.com. Most groups take about 1-1/2 hours to do the tour, tasting and purchase wine, depending on the size of the group.

Picnic lunches can be arranged for a group event with the winery. Please contact us for more information and applicable group event fees, info@priamvineyards.com.
